Love is not the highest goal

If white people don’t join the conversation, it won’t go away, not because black people cannot overcome (because “We will overcome” is a mantra), but because ignorance cannot be changed by any passing of laws. Hatred cannot be contained by re-evaluating police forces. Change happens in our hearts, in acknowledging our missteps, in admitting that we are all battered victims of an abusive society, each of us, no exceptions.
No one white person is an exception to the malnourishment of truth. The rich yacht owner (“skin color irrelevant”) is lacking just as much humanity as the widower (“skin color irrelevant”) living in solitude on floor nine.
It’s not just about love, although having more love would do a lot. You can love your own life and wealth but be living disconnected from the realities of our broken world. It’s about connectedness.
